To the right is our latest fungal phylogeny built from Zombuddies samples (only samples for which we could successfully ID both host and fungus are considered). By coloring our tree by host genus, an exciting story is emerging: different fungal strains show a strong preference for specific host genera, consistent with a hypothesis that there has been a long co-evolutionary relationship between host and insect.

Surprisingly, our molecular data have revealed that a huge portion of muscid samples are Pandora, not Entomophthora. This work wouldn’t have been possible without your incredible collaborative support. We can’t wait to scale up the dataset and see if this pattern continues to hold!
