Here there be zombies!

Below is our latest fungal phylogeny built from Zombuddies samples. The tree is colored by host genus (if we weren’t able to ID the host using DNA, then the color is blank). Our hypothesis is that different fungal strains will show a strong preference for specific host genera, reflecting a long co-evolutionary relationship between host and insect.

We have been surprised to find how many of our samples we thought were Entomophthora based on submission photos but have turned out to be Pandora. We are excited to collect more bona fide E. muscae infected flies of different host genera to flesh out this portion of the phylogeny and see what trends emerge.
